Dear Families,
My name is Mai Tran. I’m a Facilitator for the Parent Academy for Student Achievement (PASA) in the Kent School District. I’m also the proud mother of a University of Washington graduate. This is my third year with the program. PASA is a nine week training program and it’s free to parents of Kent School District students. PASA provides crucial information for you how to effectively support your children from kindergarten to college and guide them on the right path to a future career.
I had the privilege to attend the National Family Engagement Conference 2014 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Equally important was the Family Engagement In Education: Creating Effective Home and School Partnerships for Student Success 2014 in the Harvard Graduation School of Education. Our focus this year is link parent engagement to student learning in school. It is my goal to share my knowledge and experience with you through the program. We have learned that if parents come to school, the child will do better. Please use the link to PASA for further information: http://www.kent.k12.wa.us/pasa
We will be in a classroom together where your native language will either be spoken or interpreted. Our meetings will be every Tuesday or Thursday night from 6:00- 7:00 pm. There may be special nights and activities as the program progresses, and you will be given advance notice. A graduation ceremony will be held with awards for all parents who participate in the seven to 9 week class.
There are no special requirements. Your presence will show how much you value your children’s education. Parental participation is very important for us. I’m open for your ideas and recommendations. Please feel free to express yourself. I will do my best to answer your questions or find the answers. I’m looking forward to working with you. Together we can bring the Kent School District motto to reality, “Successfully Prepare all Students for Their Future.”
Sincerely,
Mai Tran
